Nishan Akgulian’s artwork is a product of his love of gestural drawing and the minimalist aesthetic. Combining expressive brush strokes and lines with carefully designed abstract shapes he always strives to give a visual energy to every image he creates.

Nishan is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis School of Fine Arts where he received a BFA in graphic communications. He currently resides in New York City.

Nishan’s work has appeared in numerous national and international magazines, advertising campaigns and corporate publications. He has done nearly 100 greeting cards for Marcel Schurman Fine Papers (Papyrus) and Graphique de France, and has been included in numerous industry illustration annuals, including Communication Arts, Society of Illustrators, Print magazine and American Illustration. His artwork has been exhibited in several juried group shows in New York City, New England and the Midwest. His hobbies include playing the doumbek (Middle Eastern hand drum.)
